However, they have several flaws that prevent them from being our top pick. One of the weaknesses of the Q5 is its navigation system doesn't have AI-powered obstacles avoidance. It's therefore prone to get stuck on shoes and socks and could not navigate through rooms with a lot of people well during our tests. It also doesn't have a camera to see around corners.
However, it's a good choice for those who want to save money on a Roomba from iRobot and have a mostly unfinished home or office. Plus, it's very quiet and can work while you're at work, or school. It doesn't have the edge-to-edge floor vacuuming available in the more expensive iRobot Roomba X30. And it's less effective at mopping, using disposable wet wipes that don't hold on well and aren't able to handle dried-on debris. The Q5 does come with a self-emptying dock, though. If you need to mop, the mopping pad can be swapped for a wet one in seconds.
2. iRobot Roomba
The iRobot Roomba X30 is a compact elegant vacuum cleaner that can also mop floors. Its quick navigation and smart cleaning maps make it easy to clean and efficient in taking on larger particles, such as pet hair. It also has a self-emptying dustbin as well as powerful suction, and support for virtual boundaries. It's the most efficient robotic hoover for carpets but it's not as good as other hoovers in terms of deep cleaning.
This highly efficient mop and vacuum combo uses advanced sensor technology to avoid obstacles and pet waste and it learns the layout of your home over time to provide more efficient cleaning. You can change the schedule of cleaning and even customize zones with the well-designed app. It has a battery lifespan that is comparable to other models.
If the X30 Ultra is in a carpeted space, you can tell it to take off and extend its mops. This will help prevent cross-contamination. Its flex arm can also be used to reach beneath low-lying furnishings and along baseboards. However, it's not equipped with the same washboard performance as our other Editors' Choice picks, the Ecovacs Deebot Ozmo N8 Pro+ and the iRobot Combo j9+.
In tests, the X30 Ultra was the fastest robot vacuum/mop to complete an entire house, finishing with the battery at 66 percent left. It also did an excellent job cleaning a range of floors and rooms with various flooring types, such as some area carpets. Its obstacle detection was top notch, and it nimbly avoided fake dog socks, turds, shoes, and bundles of cables.
It's a bit more expensive than iRobot Combo v9+ or iRobot Roomba j9+ but has superior suction and an onboard bin that is automatically empty into the base. It also supports voice commands through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant. It is able to clean floors even after it has vacuumed. This is something we haven't seen on other robotic vacuum/mop combos.
3. iRobot Roomba X40
The robot vacuum and mop combination has a sleek, circular design that looks more like the regular Roomba model than the boxy models from the competitors. It is one of our most attractive looking robot vacuums. iRobot's latest flagship model also is its most advanced model, with features that are cutting-edge like enhanced dirt detection technology and future compatibility with Matter (another company's robot that can wash its own mop pads).
It's also the sole robot vacuum/mop that scored the perfect 10/10 out of 10 in our testing. This is thanks to the combination of high-tech sensors, including a structured lighting system, a camera, and a variety of lasers. The X40 Ultra is also the only robot in our tests that is fully self-refill and empty its base station and it has an industry-leading 12,000Pa suction and self-cleaning mop pads.
The X40 as with other iRobot products, is simple to operate. It has a simple mobile application interface and is compatible with Amazon Alexa and Apple HomeKit. The only downside is that the X40 still a loud unit. This could be a concern in the mornings before work or during the night when you're trying to fall asleep.
It's also a bit expensive, although it's not as pricey as Ecovacs X2 Omni or Roborock's S8 MaxV Ultra both of which are equally capable and better-looking. If you're willing with a bit more noise and some additional cost, this is a very efficient two-in-one device that should satisfy most people.
4. iRobot Roomba L20 Ultra
The L20 Ultra is a top-of-the-range robot vacuum and mop with a variety of sophisticated features that let you get rid of your chores. Like Ecovacs the range-topping X2 Omni and Roborock's S8 Pro Ultra, the L20 is designed to be a hands-free cleaning machine that takes charge of both mopping and vacuuming. It comes with a multi-function dock that automatically empties the vacuum's trash bin, refills its water tank and cleans and dry its mop pads.
The smart robot utilizes LIDAR and structured lighting to map out floor plans and detect obstacles. It is more efficient in its navigation than its premium competitors. It also has a front mounted camera for real-time detection of hazards however this was not foolproof in our tests and could be confused with power cords or obstructions.
The vacuum cleaner comes with an maximum suction of 7,000 Pascals which is more than sufficient to complete the task. It also comes with a feature called "Intelligent Dirt Detection", that regulates the vacuum's power and adjusts cleaning frequency for various areas of the house based on how dirty the areas are.
If you have a bigger home, it is worth selecting a model with a zones or spot cleaning modes. This lets you instruct the robot on which part of your house needs to be cleaned by using the app or voice control. A stairway mode is useful if you own a lot furniture. It's also self-sufficient, with a fully-featured app as well as a self-emptying, washable base.
The iRobot app is designed to guide you through the mapping process which collects information about your floorplan and any "no go" areas you've marked on the map. It can be used to create cleaning schedules or to create the spot-cleaning. It can also be used to it to rank your most filthy areas for better performance. The app has a range of features, such as seasonal suggestions, custom mapping, and advanced cleaning settings.
It also has the ability to reach corners and under furniture better because its shape is more rectangular. It is equipped with an impressive 8000 Pascal suction and intelligent combs to remove pet hair. You can also set up a spot-clean that thoroughly cleans a specific area.

It is also noisier than other top robot vacuums that we have tested. It also has an app that's less intuitive and a small base station that can't double as a bin to empty.
